Llun clawr Home To An Empty House gan Alun Richards

“...a crackling and sizzling read, with all the verbal liveliness, the thrusting polemical athleticism of the highly articulate South Wales mind at its best ... a novel, above all, full of life ... of character and vitality.”
The Sunday Times

“His people are real, rounded and running over with life ...”
Daily Telegraph

Crynodeb:
Dywed Home To An Empty House hanes priodas sydd wedi hen golli ei sglein yn arddull finiog Alun Richards. Mae Walter, yn ddyn paranoid llawn ffraethinebau a Connie, athrawes y ‘dosbarth araf’, yn gwpwl sy’n gwybod llawer am ryw ond ychydig iawn am ei gilydd.

Mae’r chwyldro diwydiannol drosodd and mae cymoedd de Cymru yn araf ond yn ddi-feth yn colli eu hunaniaeth. Gorfodir Walter oherwydd salwch i ystyried ar ei wendidau tra bo Connie yn ceisio diwallu ei blys am deithio.

Nodiadau bywgraffyddol:
Ganed Alun Morgan Richards ym Mhontypridd ym 1929. Ysgrifennodd chwe nofel o 1962 i 1979 a dau gasgliad difyr o straeon byrion, Dai Country (1973) a The Former Miss Merthyr Tydfil (1976). Ategwyd at ddramâu ar gyfer y llwyfan a’r radio gan ddramâu teledu gwreiddiol ac addasiadau ar gyfer y teledu, gan gynnwys yr Onedin Line gan y BBC. Fel golygydd, cynhyrchodd gyfrolau hynod boblogaidd o straeon byrion o Gymru a hanesion o’r môr ar gyfer Penguin. Ymddangosodd ei fywgraffiad hynod deimladwy o fywyd ei gyfaill mynwesol, Carwyn James, ym 1984 a’i gofiant ei hun, Days of Absence ym 1986. Bu farw Alun Richards ym 2004.

Rhagflas byr

The white spot of the ophthalmoscope moved in close, unblinking like a ferret’s eye, an unnatural button brightness moving closer, right in close so I couldn't blink away the tears, but I saw his jowl then, filmy behind the instrument, his smooth, clean-cut, pretty boy’s jaw, then smelt his lime aftershave sweet to the nostrils against the antiseptic clinical smell, wincing for a moment as he grasped my forehead with his other cold hand and turned me round to get another angle. I was sweating, icicles trickling under my armpits, my good shirt coating and bowels near emptying with fear, but just managing not to get a knee shake which would have been a giveaway because in order to get in close, his knee was between mine, jammed up close to my crutch as he kept looking down that peeper of his.
