Llun clawr The Valley, The City, The Village gan Glyn Jones

Glyn Jones was one of the giants of twentieth-century Welsh writing whether as short story writer, critic or poet, and here in his remarkable novel of 1956, he creates a narrative of exceptional power that draws on all these gifts.

Crynodeb:
Yn artist wrth reddf, mae Trystan Morgan yn tyfu i fyny ym mwthyn glofaol y cymoedd ei fam-gu, mae地 teimlo dyletswydd i gyflawni ei dymuniad dwfn hi iddo ddod yn bregethwr. Mae地 dod o linach ffermio ac mae地 ysu cael peintio tirwedd wledig Gymreig ei bobl. Ond mae地 cytuno astudio ym mhrifysgol y ddinas er bod ei feddwl glaslanc yn gwrthryfela yn erbyn yr ymagweddu cymdeithasol sy地 digwydd o段 gwmpas.

Mae taith Trystan drwy池 gwerthoedd diwylliannol, cymdeithasol a gwleidyddol sy地 gwrthdaro yn ei wlad yn ystod canol yr ugeinfed ganrif yn ddigon i蜘 ddrysu ond yna地 ei ryddhau. A thrwy池 delweddau disglair, torfol, amryliw o池 nofel orchestol hon, mae池 awdur yn creu argraff gyfoethog o bobl a lle; Cymru sy地 dirwedd y meddwl.

Nodiadau bywgraffyddol:
Ganed Glyn Jones ym 1905. Yn y tridegau, ymunodd 竰r gymdeithas awduron yng Nghymru a pharhaodd i gyhoeddi ei nofelau, barddoniaeth, casgliadau straeon byrion, cyfieithiadau a段 waith beirniadol hyd nes ei farwolaeth ym 1995. Derbyniodd nifer o wobrau am ei gyfraniadau i lenyddiaeth yng Nghymru. Fe段 maged mewn teulu Cymraeg ei iaith oedd yn gapelwyr, addysgwyd Glyn drwy gyfrwng y Saesneg, ac arhosodd y Saesneg yn brif iaith ei ysgrifennu, er ei fod yn darllen a siarad y Gymraeg yn rhugl. Ef oedd cadeirydd cyntaf ac yna dirprwy lywydd Yr Academi Gymreig (yr adran Saesneg), roedd yn hynod frwd dros gefnogi llenyddiaeth y ddwy iaith.

Rhagflas byr

They were red and rugged, the hands of a labourer, their knotted erubescence evidenced familiarity with the roughest work, they seemed as if the coarse substance at which they had laboured had become an element of their conformation ... [I] watched my own painter痴 hand, culpable, indulged, and epicene, as it moved adroitly in the perfect glove of its skin.
