Llun clawr Cwmardy & We Live gan Lewis Jones

"Lewis Jones produced two novels that remain classics of international industrial fiction and testify to the oppressed but resistant and creative character of industrial South Wales."
Stephen Knight

Crynodeb:
Cyhoeddir y nofelau diwydiannol epig o’r 1930au Cwmardy a We Live gyda’i gilydd am y tro cyntaf.

Yn Cwmardy, mae Big Jim, glöwr a chyn-filwr yn Rhyfel y Boer, a’i bartner Siân yn dioddef streiciau, terfysgoedd a rhyfel, tra bo’u mab Len yn ymddangos fel trefnydd gwleidyddol dynamig. Yn We Live mae hanes Len yn dangos y caiff ei ddylanwadu gan Mary, athrawes, a’r Blaid Gomiwnyddol, ddaw’n ganolog i’w waith yn danddaearol ac o fewn gwleidyddiaeth undebol, ac i’w benderfyniad i adael ac ymladd yn Rhyfel Cartref Sbaen.

Nodiadau bywgraffyddol:
Wedi’i eni yng Nghwm Clydach ym 1897, cychwynnodd Lewis Jones weithio o dan ddaear yn ddeuddeng mlwydd oed. Gweithiodd dros Fudiad Cenedlaethol y Gweithwyr Di-waith, fe’i etholwyd yn Gynghorydd Sir ym 1936, a bu farw ym 1939 wedi diwrnod o areithio mewn nifer o gyfarfodydd cyhoeddus oedd yn gefnogol i Ryfel Cartref Sbaen.

Rhagflas byr

Big Jim, known to civil servants and army authorities as James Roberts, stopped abruptly and let his eyes roam over the splendour of the mountain landscape. A coat hung uncouthly from his arm and a soft breeze played on the hairy chest that showed beneath his open red-flannel shirt.
His small son, Len, stood near by wondering what had caused this sudden halt. He saw Big Jim open his mouth as if about to say something, but instead of words came a smacking sound and a large mass of tobacco-stained saliva.
