Crynodeb:
Mae Hannah Ellis yn bymtheg ar hugain, yn ddibriod ac yn dal i fyw yn Y Glyn, y fferm deuluol yng Nghymru lle cafodd ei magu gan ei mam a’i llystad, dyn anghynnes sydd â gafael pwerus dros y gymuned. Gan garu ei gwlad ond gasáu egoistiaeth ei theulu, mae’n dyheu am ddychweliad ei brawd Philip a alltudiwyd ymhell yn ôl, gan gredu y bydd yn ei hachub rhag ei bodolaeth lom. Ond ychydig a wyr Hannah fod dychweliad Philip ar y gorwel, ac y bydd am gychwyn ar newidiadau anferthol wrth iddo yn ddiarwybod gynnau nwydau a chryfderau cymuned anarferol o glos.

Nodiadau bywgraffyddol:
Ganed Emyr Humphreys yn Nhrelawnyd yn Sir y Fflint, a mynychodd Brifysgol Cymru, Aberystwyth cyn cofrestru fel gwrthwynebwr cydwybodol ar gychwyn yr Ail Ryfel Byd. Wedi’r rhyfel bu’n gweithio fel athro, darlithydd drama ym Mangor, ac fel cynhyrchydd gyda’r BBC. Yn ystod ei yrfa ddwyieithog hir, cyhoeddodd dros ugain o nofelau, sy’n cynnwys y fath glasuron ag A Toy Epic (1958), Outside the House of Baal (1965), a The Land of the Living, cyfres epig o saith nofel yn dilyn hanes gwleidyddol a diwylliannol Cymru’r ugeinfed ganrif: Flesh and Blood; The Best of Friends; Salt of the Earth; An Absolute Hero; Open Secrets; National Winner, a Bonds of Attachment. Ysgrifennodd ddramâu ar gyfer y llwyfan ac ar gyfer y teledu hefyd, straeon byrion, The Taliesin Tradition (hanes diwylliannol am Gymru), a chyhoeddodd ei Collected Poems ym 1999. Ymhlith y llu anrhydeddau, derbyniodd Wobr Somerset Maugham, Gwobr Hawthornden, a Gwobr Llyfr y Flwyddyn.

Rhagflas byr

‘My dear Philip,’ he said, ‘you mustn’t get bitter.’
He was all right. These were his rooms, oak-panelling, books, sherry and all the time in the world.
‘Bitter,’ I said. ‘You’d be bitter if you were me.’
